The Spooky ones

from cool nerd adventures

Sequel to "Strange Tales from Small Towns", this book will feature four adventures for D&D 5e (2024) for characters levels 5-8.   I'm working on drafts for all four right now and should start playtestin in March

The adventures are based on songs from "Reptlies and Monsters", and walk the line between gothic horror and 1940s monster movie camp.

The Invisible Dog

By day, the capital city of Leshmira hums with music, markets, and laughter. But when the sun sets, the streets fill with dread as a string of grisly murders grips the city in fear. The killer, whom the papers have dubbed the Invisible Slasher, leaves no trace but the bodies. It’s up to the characters to unravel the mystery, aided by a brilliant local scientist and his extraordinary hound: a creature whose strange gift may be the only way to reveal the unseen..

The Wolf Man
In the off-season resort town of Miravara, the quiet beach town is gripped by fear when a young woman is killed. After a lengthy manhunt, a  young noble has confessed, claiming he’s been cursed to become a werewolf, and that only an antidote can stop him before the next full moon rises. Many in the town are calling for his execution, but an imprisoned alchemist believes that he can cure him, but he needs a key ingredient that lies in a storm-swept cave along the coast, which he believes is guarded by a hideous monster. He also needs access to a proper laboratory, and the only one nearby lies in an abandoned windmill with a dark history.  To save the boy and the town that fears him, the heroes must brave the caves to collect the plants needed to cure the Wolf Man.

The Mummy’s Hand

The Royal Museum of Karsovia is abuzz with excitement for its new exhibit, Mysteries of the Pharaohs, featuring priceless relics from the desert empire of Tadeshar—and the mummified remains of Princess Anaka herself. The night before it is set to open, thieves break into the museum, wreck the place, steal the body of the princess, and murder a museum guard.  The heroes must track them down, recover what was lost, and save another innocent from becoming the next victim.

Henchmen

For years, the Karsovian government has tried—and failed—to expose the mysterious Count Morta, whose mountaintop fortress looms above the fog-shrouded peaks. Though accused of countless crimes, the Count has never been convicted, nor has anyone proven his true nature. Now his exposure becomes ever more important as he has announced his candidacy for prime minister! But now, with his most loyal servant Renfield imprisoned for attempted kidnapping, Morta is seeking a replacement, and additional staffing for his campaign!
The heroes have a rare chance to learn the Count’s secrets—if they dare pose as applicants for the position of his new henchmen. Can they survive the Count’s deadly “interview process,” uncover what truly dwells within his castle, and put an end to his reign of terror… before they end up on the payroll forever?
